"Candace Ang jewelry feeds our sweet tooth" ~ by truc nguyen november 26, 2008

If you are an avid Teen Vogue reader who pays close attention to the fashion and shopping credits in each issue, you might have noticed that in the past year we've featured the work of a young jewelry designer named Candace Ang quite a few times alongside favorite established brands such as Erickson Beamon and Tom Binns.

The Vancouver native designs a distinctive line of jewelry which blends textures and materials in innovative ways, and features dramatic pieces that are still quite accessible. "From the beginning, I've always tried to make something unique," Ang explains. "I love using materials that are not normally utilized for jewelry. I come from a fashion background and studied clothing design at Parsons, so fabric and hand-sewn details make sense to me." Her latest collection, for example, featured a lot of hand-gathered fabrics, and was inspired by runway fashions, Balenciaga florals, and vintage Edwardian jewelry.

"I think one of the hardest things is being true to yourself and your vision over time," says Ang. "Creating a strong brand and a consistent collection is always the challenge." This is one challenge that the young designer has met successfully thus far, and it will be exciting to see how the brand will develop as Ang launches a diffusion line of jewelry and hair accessories called SuperCandy later this year.
