Bat For Lashes vs. Margiela SS/09

This past Monday I had the good luck to get invited to see Bat For Lashes live at the Henry Fonda Theater here in Los Angeles. The show was stellar and her outfit was INSPIRATIONAL to say the least.

I think there are definite reference to the Margiela SS/09 "Hair" Collection. I know many critics thought it was controversial (hair on hair on jackets) but I LOVED it. Mostly because I enjoy seeing the use of unconventional materials in fashion AND I love the genius that is Margiela.... Check out Natasha vs. Margiela below:

Bat for Lashes (Natasha Kahn) in her signature outfit for the 2009 tour, a leotard with "hairy fringe sleeves"...

And I thought I was adventurous in my outfit! I had on a vintage palm print jumpsuit that I have been dying to wear all summer, and some strappy gladiator wedges. Of course accessorized with the best concert jewelry of them all - all access wristbands for the afterparty!

I'd Rather Wear Accessories!

I am heading to New York for NYFW! So very excited to get to the city and check out all the fun events at "Fashion's Night Out" on September 10th. First off is the big party being held at Henri Bendel's Flagship store on 5th Avenue.

"Henri Bendel will be joining 700 other participating retailers next Thursday night, September 10th, to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out, a global initiative spearheaded by Vogue, the CFDA and the City of New York to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion.

The theme of the evening is “I’d Rather Wear Accessories” and nowhere will this be more evident then in the beautifully crafted mannequins in the window and throughout the store “dressed” entirely in accessories. Picture a couture ball gown made exclusively of gloves or a 40’s inspired dress made entirely of pearls.

Guests will be treated to cocktails and nibbles courtesy of STK and chic beats by DJ, Niki McNally, while mingling with designers at The New and the Next Gallery. Carlos Falchi, Rodrigo Otazu, Badgley Mischka, Rebecca Minkoff, Trish McEvoy, among others, will be making personal appearances. Over 40 designers have created one of a kind pieces, which we will be auctioning off to benefit the 911 Memorial fund.

Gossip Girl’s, Eric Daman and Revlon’s Gucci Westman will be styling and making over guests for the “I’d Rather Wear Accessories” photo shoot. Guests will have an opportunity to enter the “I’d Rather Wear Accessories” sweepstakes where one lucky winner will win the accessory of their choice.

Vogue model and artist, Sasha Pivavorova, will be curating an exhibit of her works. Our renowned in-house illustrator, Izak Zenou, will be sketching personalized “I’d Rather...” portraits.

And that’s not all...we will also be raffling off fabulous prizes, such as, the ultimate Henri Bendel luggage set, beauty baskets filled with products worth in excess of $750, a $200 gift certificate for dinner at STK plus a 10 pack of core fusion classes at exhale at the Gansevoort New York."

Sounds like fun! See you guys there...

Candace Ang for Margarita Saplala SS2010

I'm chilling up in the Great White North while my cohorts in New York are busy shooting the look book for the awesome Margarita Saplala Spring/Summer 2010 Collection.

While I was drinking beer and watching the UFC championship on Pay Per View last night (yes all glamour goes out the window when in Canada!) those crazy kids were getting together the new jewelry I designed for Margarita's new collection debuting this September.

Check out some pieces from her FW 2009 collection to get an idea of what she does best - super simple layers, essential silk dresses, and digital prints in cool colors....

I can't show you the jewelry yet but from what I hear everyone is loving it over there! Earlier in the summer, Margarita came for a visit to my studio and we went over styles and the graphics for her great printed silks. With her ideas and inspiration, I put together a really fun and easy collection of lucite and silver jewelry to go with her new pieces. Think bold geometric shapes, fabric wrapped chains and a multitude of prints!

The jewelry will be available online and in stores soon! Margarita Saplala is available at Barney's New York and at select boutiques across the US. Also check out her new website www.margaritasaplala.com and super cool webstore!

New York Stories

I came back from The City late last night....Anyone who knows me knows that I am completely and utterly in love with New York and every time I go back I am reminded why. People say its the "energy" and I have to agree - the the cumulative spirit that lives in each and every person on that island is something truly unique. From the taxi driver taking me downtown to the coffee shop guy to the people on the streets walking their dogs to all my crazy and creative, ambitious friends...I just love how ALIVE everything is. I know that may sound overly romantic....but hey, its true! I have alot of stories to share about my trip but for now here are some phone pics I took...

Love this Graffiti on Lafayette

Under Brooklyn Bridge

Lady Liberty in the mist....

Where the cool kids are...

The only sunny day was the last
one!

The Little Piglet

Sugar Sweet Sunshine Cupcakes

The Chandelier I made that lives in Red Hook now :)

A Small Puppeh in the East Village

This is what I see first thing in the morning

I was craving pancakes ALL WEEK and my beautiful roomie made them for me!

Peonies are my FAVORITE flower (hint hint) and they only bloom in May.....

An even smaller puppeh!

So there's a tiny sneak peek. More to come! Hope that everyone had a great week and a very lovely Mother's day! My mom was so thrilled with the flowers I got her she's been texting me non-stop! ha, super techno mom! <3 I love her....

Oh Glorious Day!

How was your weekend? I hope that everyone had a relaxing and fun time! When in Los Angeles I tend to be more of a recluse and hide away at the design studio making jewelry and cooking ALOT! This weekend though it was so fresh and beautiful we decided to go hiking on Saturday (at Griffith Park) and bike riding on Sunday. The skies were pure blue and there was not a cloud in sight! Now this is what draws most people to Los Angeles and I don't blame them - the weather was a spectacular 70 degrees and breezy. The first thing I bought when I opened the studio here was this cool 1970's Huffy that I found on Craigslist for $50 bucks! It doesn't go very fast but it sure is cute!

We decided to take our bikes as far west as we could go but we quickly got hungry and decided to stop at the mall....ha, talk about athletic! Shopping is my best sport! No, really we were super hungry! After getting falafels at the Century City we swung by to check out my jewelry at the new Neiman Marcus CUSP there. I'm not a big department store shopper but this Store/Boutique concept from Neiman Marcus is BEAUTIFUL! CUSP is the equivalent of Barney's Co-op and has all the top contemporary designers and denim lines as well as shoes, handbags, and jewelry. They really did a good job designing all their locations and the selection is perfect for the hippie-chic So-Cal lifestyle that is so popular here. Print dresses galore mixed in with fun accessories and YSL heels are very Los Angeleno. But with weather like this I don't blame people for wanting fun, easy clothing!

They had my necklace featured in a case on its own with some beautiful clutches and designer handbags. If you can't make it out to a CUSP store near you, they do have an online shop that carries everything in store at WWW.CUSP.COM and you can check out one of my pieces HERE (the Ruffian Volume 1 in nude).

While LA is sunny and beautiful, I'm really looking forward to New York at the end of the week! More details soooon!

The City Of Angels...

Hello Candy Lovers! I am back in the City of Angels to see what's going on over here and check on the production at my studio. We have alot of new jewelry going out to stores this month and I am so very excited about that!

Right now I am prepping a shipment for Bergdorf Goodman (yay!). The flagship New York establishment has just chosen to pick up our hair accessory line in addition to the Candace Ang Jewelry that has been selling out at 5F! So cool! So I am getting that ready and peeping out at the beautiful LA sunshine streaming into my studio....it is so peaceful here.

Everyone knows though, my sweet tooth is for the big city! Here are some more pics from my trip last week. I went to the showroom one last time to see the girls and bring over my favorite cheesecake....Eileen's!

This is me in front of my showroom display which was devoured by all the editors at the press event! Alot of jewelry was pulled for editorial so instead of seeing it here you will see it on the pages of upcoming magazines soon!

(Vintage Leather Moto Jacket/Thrifted from my secret vintage store in Vancouver, Tie Dye Jeans/Kill City, Jersey Scarf/H&M, Forientini Baker Boots with customized straps)

Speaking of magazines...look what I got in the mail today! I have jewelry featured in US WEEKLY! Thank god nothing scandalous...just a couple of sweet Ruffian Necklaces! Which you can get at my online shop www.candaceang.com (click SHOP!)

Hope that you all have a fun weekend. I've got to get this order to FedEx fast so I can enjoy the sun a little today :)

Please check out the w29 BLOG to see their take on the event.

Here is a little pic of me and "La Lanphear" - she was amazingly sweet and complimentary even though I was seriously girl crushing all over her gold oxfords! OMG!

And the Oscar Goes to.....

KATE WINSLET!!!! As you can see I'm a little late on the uptake but InStyle magazine sure isn't! They put a most gorgeous Kate on their February cover BEFORE she won said award! Doesn't she look stunning? Here is proof that a woman can definitely get more radiant as the years go by!

Also in this issue is our tasty RUMOUR bracelet in Sage and Antique White - what a pretty editorial!

We have been blowing out of them at the WEBSTORE all month so I thought I would post them here! Get yours now before its too late!

XXC!

Me Love You Long Time...

I have no time to shop, so sometimes it takes me a very long time to get pieces that I have seen months ago but never got around to buying. I'm actually a total shoe-whore, I love clothing of course but I really really love shoes, vintage jackets/coats, and of course jewelry. In the end I can live in jeans and a tee, fab jewels and a really awesome pair of shoes. Thank god I have two of the three vices under control!

Here are photos of the Chloes from last week.... Mine are black but very similar....

Do you love? I really am into the side view and all the straps! De-lovely! De-licious! Perfect with a Herve Leger Dress....now I just have to get back to Pilates so I can fit into my HL and not feel like an over-stuffed bondage sausage! Can you believe its March already!!!!

Getting ready to book some plane tickets for upcoming spring travel. Lots and lots of things to do! Hope that everyone is having a great Monday!

XOXO

As Promised.....

I just got back from a fabulous time with TB!!! SO much fun that we can only do it in regimented periods of time or else we would explode with joy. I love miss Brando.... so much! You know when you are with someone who just GETS you? That's how it is with Tris....so good, so inspirational, so. much. fun.

Anyways, as promised my outfit post! First one! Don't make fun of me (yet) I promise I will get better at this! I just downed two apple turnovers so I'm a little high on the sugar....

Ahhhh here are my Givenchys - They are surprisingly comfortable despite the ridiculous pitch. I had to get the 39.5 even though "really" I am an american 8-1/2. All those fancy Euro shoes are much smaller than you would imagine. I almost got the brown lace-ups but they only had 39 boooo.

Now for the outfit - I went out for drinks and dinner nearby....

Leather Thriller Jacket/Vintage, AA Matte Latex Leggings, Destroyed T-shirt Stolen From a Boy/Olmar and MIRTA, Candace Ang Jewelry, Skull Leather Cuff/Hell's Angel in Soho, Vintage Bracelets, Peep Toe Booties/Givenchy

When She's Good She's Good (When She's Bad She's Better)

Ohhhhh, its Friday! I was sitting in the dreaded waiting room at the DMV this afternoon (can you believe they're not open on the weekend?) to get my DL renewed when I got the BEST phone call! It was M. at Diavolina calling me to say my Givenchy's went on SALE. Oh dear... I have been drooling over these babies for a while now and while there are newer bodies in the same silhouette (the SS09 LACE version) I knew these booties were meant for my feet when a) they are grey and black (pretty much the only colors I wear and b) they only had ONE pair in the store and they were my size (a ginormous 9.5 fellas!!). So when M. called I was there faster than you could say "Ricardo I Looooooove You" (Givenchy mastermind Ricardo Tisci that is).

I LOVE THESE SHOES!!! check them out - the heel is gorgeous and they are oh so robotic and almost hoof like! I know that's not sexy sounding but believe me these shoes are hot. They are more booties I suppose but the open toe really adds an edge and lightens them up on the foot so as to balance out the chunky wedge.

Funny, when I was trying them on I head a small voice calling me. It was a pretty, sweet voice, barely audible above the girls talking and the music....the voice was saying "Candace....look over here....I need you to take me home" oh, that sweet sound! It was coming from the spike heel/snake skin/ridiculously sexy Chloes over on the other side of the store! Oh, so needless to say, they came home with me as well. I can't find a pic of them on the net so I promise, outfit posts soon!

What are your weekend plans? I'm heading over to pick up TB from LeBlahg for some girlie time and happy hour!

Have a Happy Friday!
