THE NATIONAL POST

"The woes of great clothes"

The Ottawa Senators made a mess of their California sojourn last week (and possibly last night), but they weren't the only Maple Leaf ambassadors to the Golden State. All this week, we hit the town with Canadians in Los Angeles. Today, we feature fashion designer Candace Ang.

One could forgive Candace Ang for cradling her Rock Star energy drink this afternoon. The fashion designer arrived in Los Angeles from New York at 1 a.m. after missing two flights and spending much of the previous day in a New York cab. "I was practically crying at the airport," she says, recounting the transportation nightmare that was her last 24 hours.

She's in the midst of setting up her studio, which she says is located in "Beverly Hills adjacent," though a map of the city doesn't assign it any particular name. She lives in the same building. "I moved from New York a year and a half ago. I didn't know much about Los Angeles, so I thought I'd live in the middle of the city," she explains.

t's close to trendy Robertson Boulevard, a shopping mecca for many, which hosts retailers such as the tabloid-friendly Kitson and the high-end Curve, home to some of Ang's jewellery line. (She is in the process of expanding: This year she designed a line of ballet flats. Her next project will be perfume. "The necklaces will have pendants with perfume inside," she says.)
Robertson is within walking distance of Ang's studio, but this being L.A., and because she is suffering from jet lag, a drive to the shops is in order.
"This street is funky, like Robson Street in Vancouver," the 31-year-old says, referring to her hometown, where her parents and brother still live and which she visits every three or four months.
A brief stop at Curve to get an update on her sales brings good news. The store's manager says that Faye Resnick, a friend of Kathy Hilton (Paris's mother), bought the last two pieces of Ang's collection and that Curve is currently sold out of her accessories...... " When we're in the mood for a punky yet girly cameo necklace, the first name that pops into our heads is Candace Ang. Luckily for us, our necks are no longer the only place we can display Ang's wares. Her latest venture is a line of adorable ballet flats. Feeling romantic? Opt for the French lace version. In the mood to add some sparkle to your wardrobe? Try a pair in soft metallic leather. Not straying too far from her roots, however, Ang's shoes come with a detachable piece of jewelry (pure genius!)

(Candace says) "I was looking at this adorable pair of ballet flats one day, and was longing for one of my Lost Lovers safety pins to be on the front," Ang said. She suggests using the clips to customize other parts of your wardrobe – boots, jackets, and even headbands (thanks for the tip!) The best part? If you buy one pair and five different clips, it'll look like you have five new pairs of shoes. And, hey, what could be better than that!"

"The best outfit to wear with ballet flats? "Anything!" Ang says, suggesting mixing it up with skinny jeans and lace dresses."

SHOES! SHOES! SHOES!

ohhhhh.....You've been asking for it! My new line of shoes is shipping this week! THEY ARE GORGEOUS and COMFY TOO! We have been test walking the samples and even one of my friends who works for VALENTINO thinks they are softer than the $400 ballerinas from her company! NICE!

Here are a few locations where you can get your paws on them....wait about a week beacause they probably are not on the floor yet! But I wanted to give you the heads up because these are super limited edition and WILL SELL OUT!
